As Florida enters another hurricane season, preparedness remains one of the most important tools communities have to protect themselves before a storm strikes. That’s why our Orlando team was proud to attend the first-ever Hurricane Expo in Lakeland, hosted by the City of Lakeland and United Way of Central Florida.
The event brought together homeowners, contractors, volunteers, emergency preparedness organizations, and community leaders for a day focused on education, resources, and resilience. With a strong turnout from residents throughout the area, the expo provided an excellent opportunity for community members to learn more about hurricane preparedness and connect with organizations dedicated to helping families stay safe before, during, and after disasters.
Throughout the event, our team had the opportunity to speak with homeowners about the importance of preparing their homes and families for hurricane season. We also shared information about RTGFL’s disaster preparedness and recovery programs, which help vulnerable homeowners strengthen their homes, recover from storm damage, and remain safely housed.
One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of hurricane preparedness kits to local residents. These kits contain essential supplies and resources that can help families better prepare for emergencies and respond more effectively when severe weather threatens. By ensuring residents have access to these tools before a storm arrives, we can help reduce risk and improve community resilience.
Events like the Hurricane Expo play a critical role in strengthening disaster preparedness efforts across Florida. While no one can predict exactly what a hurricane season will bring, communities that are informed, prepared, and connected to local resources are better positioned to weather storms and recover more quickly afterward.
We are grateful to the City of Lakeland and United Way of Central Florida for hosting this important event and for their commitment to helping protect local families. Together, through education, preparedness, and partnership, we can help build stronger, safer, and more resilient communities throughout Florida.
