Building Back Stronger: $3 Million American Red Cross Grant Launches Hurricane Recovery Efforts

September 4 marked a powerful moment of hope and resilience in Hillsborough County’s Progress Village. Rebuilding Together Greater Florida (RTGFL) has joined forces with the American Red Cross to announce a $3 million grant dedicated to repairing storm-damaged homes and supporting families impacted by recent hurricanes.

This funding will provide critical home repairs, including roof replacements and structural work, for vulnerable families across Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Sarasota counties. The first family to benefit from this partnership, homeowner Regina Hamilton, was celebrated at the event as her home began its journey to becoming safe and livable again.

Community leaders, including RTGFL CEO Jose Garcia, American Red Cross Executive Director Mike Brown of the Tampa Bay Chapter, and Hillsborough County Commissioner Gwen Myers, came together to emphasize the importance of long-term recovery and collaboration.

As Robbie Sofaly, Long-Term Recovery Operations Director for Hurricanes Helene and Milton, shared:

“This grant funding is an investment in Florida families and the communities they call home.”

This kickoff marks the start of a long-term rebuilding effort, helping families across the region recover and prepare as we move through the most active part of hurricane season. Together, we are not just repairing homes, we’re restoring hope. Committed to rebuilding lives and strengthening communities, one home at a time.
