ABC7 Highlights Rebuilding Together Greater Florida’s First Mobile Home Repair in Palmetto

Rebuilding Together Greater Florida’s mobile home repair in Palmetto was recently featured by ABC7, highlighting the organization’s growing efforts to help mobile homeowners complete critical repairs and remain safely in their homes.

The project took place in the Shadow Brook mobile home community, where homeowner Peter Previte received repairs to his severely damaged roof and the replacement of a destroyed carport.

ABC7 visited the completed project and spoke with Previte and members of the Rebuilding Together Greater Florida team about what the repairs mean for his home and the future of the organization’s mobile home repair program.

A Safer Home Ahead of Hurricane Season

For Previte, the improvements have provided greater peace of mind as Florida moves through hurricane season.

The Shadow Brook community experienced significant damage during recent storms, including the 2024 hurricane season. For many mobile homeowners, the cost and complexity of completing major structural repairs can make recovery especially difficult.

With his new roof completed, Previte told ABC7 that he feels safer in his home and better prepared for future storms.

The project represents an important milestone for Rebuilding Together Greater Florida as the organization expands its services to reach more mobile homeowners.

Expanding Mobile Home Repair Services in Florida

Mobile homes require a specialized approach to construction and repair. Before expanding the program, Rebuilding Together Greater Florida worked to better understand those construction needs while identifying contractors and suppliers capable of completing the work.

CEO Jose Garcia told ABC7 that the organization sees significant need among mobile homeowners throughout its service areas.

The Palmetto project now serves as an example of what the expanded program can accomplish.

Rebuilding Together Greater Florida plans to continue growing its mobile home repair work, with additional projects planned across the Sarasota-Manatee area, Osceola County and the Tampa Bay area.

Critical Home Repairs Help Homeowners Stay Safe

While storm recovery is an important part of the program, critical home repairs can address needs beyond hurricane damage.

Construction Manager DJ June explained to ABC7 that these improvements can also support homeowners facing health, safety and mobility concerns.

Rebuilding Together Greater Florida’s mission is centered on helping homeowners live safely and independently in their homes. Expanding mobile home repair services allows the organization to bring that mission to even more families throughout Greater Florida.

For Previte, the first completed project has already made a meaningful difference — and it marks the beginning of what the organization hopes will become a much larger effort.
