National Rebuilding Month 2025

April is National Rebuilding Month — Here’s How We Made It Count

At Rebuilding Together Greater Florida (RTGFL), National Rebuilding Month is more than a calendar event—it’s a time when we come together with volunteers, partners, and communities to make real, lasting impact.

This April, we proudly led three major projects across Florida, partnering with Stewart Title, United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades + Team Depot, and Lockheed Martin to repair homes, restore dignity, and rebuild hope.

🛠 Project 1: Stewart Title Volunteers Support Mr. Croker

Restoring the Home of Army Veteran Robert Croker
📍 Orlando, FL | April 4, 2025

On April 4, we kicked off National Rebuilding Month in Orlando, joining Stewart Title to revitalize the home of Robert Croker, a 72-year-old Army veteran and lifelong resident of the community.

Robert’s home required critical repairs, including a new roof, kitchen and bathroom replacements, plumbing, and HVAC work. Thanks to $15,000 from Stewart Title and additional support from funding through Orange County for our Safe and Healthy Homes: Safe at Home program, we were able to provide these essential upgrades.

While contractors handled the heavy lifting inside, Stewart Title volunteers painted and landscaped the property—bringing new life and pride to Robert’s home.

🌱 Project 2: United Way + Team Depot

Beautifying the Harlem Heights Community Resource Center
📍 Fort Myers, FL | April 16, 2025

Mid-month, we partnered with United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades and Team Depot to revitalize a key community space in Harlem Heights. Volunteers transformed the United Way building into a more vibrant, welcoming environment for staff and the families they serve.

Volunteer-led improvements included:

  • Construction of two 10×12 gazebos
  • A new butterfly garden and raised herb planters
  • Painting of picnic tables, curbs, and staff break room
  • Landscaping, mulching, and curb appeal enhancements

With $9,000 in gift cards from The Home Depot, this team effort created a space that uplifts and strengthens the community—just as it’s intended to do.

🏡 Project 3: Lockheed Martin Volunteers Support the Owens Family

Home Repairs and Beautification for Retired Army National Guard Member
📍 Orlando, FL | April 25, 2025

We ended the month on a high note by serving Michael and Jeanette Owens at their longtime home in Orlando’s Fairview Shores neighborhood.

Michael, a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, and Jeanette, a former Lockheed Martin employee, have lived in their 1959-built home for over 25 years. Now retired, they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and giving back through their church.

With support from Lockheed Martin volunteers, we focused on painting and landscaping—including trimming trees, removing invasive plants, and adding mulch to flower beds.

In addition, a skilled team of contractors completed a wide range of critical repairs, including:

  • Roof replacement
  • Electrical and lighting upgrades
  • Drywall repair and insulation
  • HVAC duct assessment
  • Pressure washing and soft wash of exterior
  • Window glass replacement
  • New water heater and plumbing in exterior utility room
  • Junk removal and garage panel upgrades
  • Extermination for insects and pests

Michael shared, “I can’t really put into words how thankful I am. Living paycheck to paycheck and being able to receive this help is God sent. I am extremely grateful.”

Rebuilding More Than Homes

From restoring individual homes to revitalizing community spaces, our three April projects are powerful reminders of what’s possible when people come together to serve others. Whether it’s a coat of paint or a new roof, every task contributes to a safer, healthier life for our neighbors.

To our incredible partners—Stewart Title, United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades, Team Depot, and Lockheed Martin—thank you for showing what it means to build up your community.
