RTGFL Launches Disaster Readiness and Recovery Program in Polk County

Rebuilding Together Greater Florida (RTGFL) is proud to announce the official launch of our Disaster Readiness and Recovery Program in Polk County. This important effort kicked off with a hurricane preparedness event in partnership with United Way of Central Florida and GiveWell Community Foundation. Together, we’re working to help vulnerable families strengthen their homes and prepare for storm season.

As part of the launch, volunteers came together to assemble 150 hurricane kits for residents in need. These kits provide essential supplies to help families stay safe during severe weather. In addition to preparedness efforts, we highlighted critical home repairs already completed through the program, and shared our plans to rehab 12 homes in the county—four of which have already been completed.

We were honored to have the support of local leaders, partners, and community members who are committed to building resilience in Polk County. Among those lending their voices was Volunteer Florida CEO Josie Tamayo, who emphasized the urgent need for disaster recovery efforts in this rapidly growing region.

Thanks to the dedication of our partners, volunteers, and supporters, this is just the beginning of our work to create safer, stronger homes and communities in Polk County. Together, we are building resilience one home at a time.
